WCC is partnering with Davidson County Community College’s Business Administration program to offer a concentration of study in Logistics Management beginning this fall. Students in WCC’s Business & Public Services Technology Division may take Logistics Management courses through cyber instruction at the Wilkesboro campus.
“This Instructional Service Agreement (ISA) allows students to take a large portion of the courses in the Logistics Management program through Wilkes Community College, and the remaining Logistics (LOG) courses will be offered as cyber or online courses from Davidson County Community College (DCCC),” says Kristen Macemore, chair of the Business & Public Services Technology Division. “This will also make it possible for WCC Business Administration students to easily double-major.”
Logistics Management prepares students for careers in transportation and warehousing in positions such as material handling foreman, transportation supervisor, traffic manager, warehouse manager and inventory control manager. Typical courses in this program include transportation, warehousing, inventory control, material handling, computerization, and federal transportation and OSHA regulations. The program offers a degree and diploma option.
The first course to be offered is LOG 110 Introduction to Logistics. The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. in a cyber classroom in Lowe’s Hall. Instructor Mark W. Strider from DCCC will lead the class. Students should contact their advisor to register for Logistics Management courses. New students should visit Student Services and complete the college admission process.
Instructional Service Agreements are a creative way to provide greater access for students to programs that are not approved for offer at a student’s local community college. By partnering with other colleges through an ISA, students may complete non-core courses, such as general education and perhaps other degree-specific courses, at their local community college, and then complete core courses for the program through the partner institution. For example, an ISA between DCCC and WCC will offer WCC students access to the Logistics Management Concentration offered at DCCC. Under the ISA, each college will generate FTE for the courses taken at the respective institution. WCC students will be able to take general education and business administration courses through WCC, with the logistics courses being offered as cyber or online courses through DCCC.
