The Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College is offering free courses this summer and fall for workers in transition. Fees will be waived for persons who are unemployed, have received notice of an impending layoff or meet eligibility requirements.
Career Planning is designed to give students the materials needed to make a realistic plan for career and/or educational goals. The course meets Monday-Friday, June 20-24, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Computer Skills I: Beginner is set for Fridays, July 1-Sept. 9, 9 a.m.-noon. First-time computer students will be instructed in basic computer operations and functions, how to send e-mails, and how to navigate the Internet. They will learn the value of using the computer as a job search tool. Students should ask for course number 25322 when registering.
Computer Skills II: Intermediate will be offered on Thursdays, Sept. 29-Dec. 5, 6;05-9:05 p.m. This course is a follow-up to the Computer Skills I course. Students will be introduced to Microsoft Word and Excel. The course number is 25417.
Medical Office
Administration begins Aug. 15 and will meet Mondays-Wednesdays, 6-9 p.m., through Oct. 4. Course topics will focus on career exploration, job seeking and keeping strategies, and entry-level skill awareness and development as related to the medical office field. The course number is 25515.
Keyboarding will be offered Wednesdays, Aug. 17-Oct. 26, 5-8 p.m. Keyboard functions, mouse functions and hand placement will be explained. The course number is 25433.
