The best and brightest of Lexington City Schools were celebrated for their academic accomplishments Tuesday night at the 52nd Rotary Scholars Banquet.

Rotary Scholars represent the top 10 students in each class from eighth grade up through high school seniors at Lexington Middle and Lexington Senior High schools.

Scholars were treated to a short concert from the Lexington Senior High School Choral Ensemble and dinner at the J. Smith Young YMCA.

For many students, the banquet has become a routine fixture. Senior Fareena Bacchus, one of 11 scholars also part of the high school’s choral ensemble, was honored for the third time in her academic career. The recognition is something Bacchus has been very appreciative of each year.

“It gives you something to work towards,” she said. “Every year, it’s, ‘OK, let’s work our best.’ You really look forward to something like this when the community is recognizing you for all the hard work you’ve done.”
