May 10, 2011
The 47th Annual Davidson County Community College Commencement ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, May 14, on the Davidson Campus where approximately 800 graduation candidates will qualify to receive two-year-degrees, diplomas and certificates.
The DCCC Class of 2011 is made up of 805 candidates. A total of 549 two-year associate degrees will be awarded in addition to 508 certificates, and 225 diplomas. Many students will receive more than one credential.
Commencement will take place on the front lawn adjacent to the Mendenhall Building. For those who can’t attend, the ceremony may be viewed live via the Internet. Just before 10 a.m., an icon alert on the front page of the DCCC website (www.davidsonccc.edu) will provide instructions on how to watch and hear the commencement via computer.
During commencement, a posthumous honorary degree will be awarded to George Allen Mebane IV, a Davie County resident, textile industry executive, and philanthropist who died in 2008. It will be the sixth honorary degree awarded by DCCC. Previously, they were presented to B.E. Mendenhall, Jr., in 1991, to Edward C. Smith, Sr., in 1992, to Felix O. Gee in 1994, and to Bob Timberlake and Richard Childress in 2006.
The DCCC Trustees voted to award the honorary degree this year due to Mebane’s vision and leadership that continues to provide positive educational solutions in Davie County through The Mebane Charitable Foundation, which he formed in 1992.
In case of rain, the DCCC Commencement will be held Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m., at Richard Childress Racing in Welcome, with a ticket required for admission. In this case, no live computer feed will be available. |
