Davidson County Community College's students, faculty and guests were taught one simple lesson Tuesday from a guest speaker who shared his personal story about drinking and driving.

“One bad decision can have a greater meaning,” said Tolly Carr, a former television anchor who pleaded guilty to felony death by motor incident. He spent nearly two years in prison.

The Office of Student Life presented “The Dangers of Drinking and Driving” in the Conference Center as part of Alcohol Awareness Month. Lynne Watts, director of student life and leadership at DCCC, said the college's hope was that the presentation would illustrate the vital dangers of drinking and driving.

On average someone is killed in an alcohol-impaired crash every 50 minutes in the United States. These are very alarming statistics.”

Kristen Thompson, a DCCC nursing student, thought it was brave for Carr to talk at the college.
