A logistics management student at Davidson County Community College was honored March 23 for winning a $1,500 scholarship during Piedmont Triad Partnership’s Annual Dinner where North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue was the guest speaker.
Beverly Greear of Thomasville was presented with the scholarship from the Piedmont Triad Transportation Association during the event at the Embassy Suites in Greensboro. She was selected for the scholarship after nomination by her DCCC logistics management instructor.
The scholarship program is open to all community college or university students in the Piedmont Triad region who are studying transportation, logistics or supply chain management, a program offered in the DCCC School of Business, Engineering and Technical Studies.
Greear was selected as a scholarship recipient based on her scholastic achievement, career goals, letters of recommendation and financial need. At DCCC, she is pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in Logistics Management where she is a dean’s list student with a 4.0 grade point average. As president of the DCCC Business Explorer’s Club, she has helped increase club membership by over 300 percent.
“Beverly Greear is a dedicated and determined student who knows how to lead,” said Mark Strider, DCCC’s logistics management instructor. “She is currently working on a project that explains the impact of global logistics on the United States,” he added.
After earning her associate degree at DCCC, Greear intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in logistics and to secure employment in the career field of procurement at a Piedmont Triad logistics company.
DCCC’s logisitics curriculum prepares students for careers in transportation and warehousing through the study of logistics organization and management. Course work includes the international and domestic movement of goods from the raw materials stage through production and delivery to the consumer. Graduates quality for logistics-related jobs such as material handlers, transportation supervisors, traffic and warehouse managers, and inventory control managers.
