Stressing the importance of a college education while also familiarizing students with career options that are available to them was the goal Thursday at Davidson County Community College where eighth-grade students toured the college.
Each year more than 2,200 eighth-graders from all three school systems in the county visit the college over the course of three days as part of a collaborative effort to inform them about the need for a higher education. Students will be at the school Friday and Monday as well.
“Our goal is to spark their interest and thinking about their futures and to share essential information on goals they must focus on to be prepared for college,” said Jenny Nance, DCCC's recruiter and enrollment counselor. “They will spend time learning about interesting academic and career programs and interacting with faculty and staff to ask questions about college options and opportunities.”
