Two actors portrayed the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday at Davidson County Community College to expose students to the important and rich history of his legacy.
The actors from The Bright Star Touring Theatre in Asheville presented “The Struggle for Freedom: The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Story” in the Conference Center.
“It's important to know America has come a long way from when Dr. Martin Luther King was alive,” said actor Ashley Isenhower during the play. “With knowledge of our history, we can all make the world a better place. America is in a very different place now because of this man.”
The play focused on King and highlighted historical events that took place during his life. Some of the events discussed were about the civil rights movement with King helping Rosa Parks and the bus boycotters in Montgomery, Ala. They even portrayed events when King's house was bombed in 1960 and what he did as a leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to help integrate the lunch counters and theaters as well. All of the events led to the civil rights bill.
