Davidson County Community College's spring art exhibit, “Expressions of Style,” features 108 pieces ranging from watercolors, oil paintings and drawings to photography, fused glass art and woodturnings, with three local artists among the dozen displaying their talent.

“We've been very lucky at the college to find a lot of great artists,” said Barbara Cullen, curator of the exhibit for DCCC. An artist herself, she also is the curator for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem and has organized the DCCC shows for several years.

“The title comes from the fact we have so many mediums represented this time — and every style is different,” she noted.

The local artists include two from Lexington, watercolorist Laura Poss and photographer Andrew Goliszek, and a Denton artist, Anne Croom, who primarily paints oils.

Poss' love of nature is evident in her 14 works on display, which features many landscapes, including several in rural Davidson County such as “Parks Road,” “Holloway Church Road” and “Palmer Road.” She said her painting is impressionism leaning toward realism.

“Landscapes are my favorite subject,” Poss said. “I especially enjoy the simple country scenes.”
