Language & Literature Development in Children - CID  # 28124
This course combines theory, research and practice to provide a solid foundation for understanding language development from birth to age eight. This course will supply readers with a basic understanding of the phonetic, semantic, syntactic, morphemic and pragmatic aspects of language knowledge acquired by young children. In addition, ways in which this acquisition process can be enhanced in early childhood settings will be covered. Material is also included on the role of the brain in language development.

Building Level III Standard Inspection - CID  # 28187
This course is designed for the education of the Building Level III official that inspects all types of construction of unlimited size.

MIG & TIG Welding - CID # 26418
The basics of MIG and TIG welding will be covered in this course. Topics to be covered include the following: safety, machine set-up, current control, gas and pressure control, techniques for welding in various positions with different types of metal, weld penetration and various shop projects.

Personal Finance - CID # 26869
This course is designed to provide a study of individual and family financial decisions. Emphasis is placed on building useful skills in buying, managing finances, increasing resources, and coping with current economic conditions. Upon completion, students should be able to create a personal financial plan.

Leadership & Supervision - CID # 28125
This class focuses on the key elements and fundamentals of leadership beginning with the Myers-Briggs personality assessment and concluding with scenarios that could apply to employment, mission teams, volunteer boards and other situations where people depend on the efforts of a team.

Stainless & Aluminum TIG Welding - CID # 28098
The basics of TIG Welding will be covered in this course as students practice with stainless steel and aluminum. Students will examine and demonstrate proper: safety, set-up, current control, gas and pressure control, techniques for welding in various positions with different types and thicknesses of metal, checking weld penetration and shop projects

Computer Skills for College - CID  # 28235

Students will review Microsoft Office 2010, learn to manage email accounts, social networks and become familiar with Moodle (online learning management system used in all online courses and in many face-to-face courses). Successful students will earn a waiver for the SAMS Challenge and/or Computing Fundamentals (CTS 080).

This introductory class will take you step-by-step through the process of genealogical research. Track your ancestors using U.S. Census, birth and death records, along with a variety of other primary and secondary resources.

Debt Control - CID  # TBD
Using an imaginary family income and expenses, the class will first determine the financial status of the family. Determine the areas of expenditures. Determine actions that need to be taken to improve the current status to stabilize the fictional family income. Using the discussion points from class, students willl build a line item budget for the fictional family. The class will then take this budget and expand upon it to develop a savings plan, a plan for anticipated purchases, and unexpected expenditures. As a part of this expansion, the use of credit, and in particular the use of credit cards, will be considered.

This seminar will review all aspects of debt management with an emphasis on increased cash flow through streamlining current cash application processes.

Mechanical Standard Inspection Level III - CID  # 26838
This course fulfills the Code Officials Qualification Board’s prescribed training course to gain admission to the qualifying examination for a Standard Certificate at Level III.

Notary - CID  # 26925
This course meets state requirements for certification as a Notary Public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A convicted felon is not eligible to obtain a notary license in North Carolina. The textbook is required.

Kudzu Basket Weaving
Cherokee Indians enjoyed the benefits of the Kudzu vine beyond its initial use for erosion control. Students will enjoy seeing what this vine can do as they learn the craft of basket making. Each vine has a distinct “personality” and will yield a unique finished product.
