"New Expressions" Art Exhibit to Open January 17 at Davidson County Community College

New Expressions, the spring art exhibit at Davidson County Community College, will open on January 17. The opening reception is set for 4-6 p.m. in the B.E. Mendenhall, Jr. Building on the Davidson Campus.
Eight artists will present a variety of artwork in diverse media areas such as photography, clay, bookmaking and paintings in oils, acrylics, pastels and watercolors. They are:
- Nico Amortegui (MALO) of Charlotte, who specializes in large abstract paintings. The artist’s works depict his belief in a higher power and no matter how dire the situation, his belief that people can still find joy in life.
- Kevin Brown of Charlotte who displays his love of peaceful places in colorful paintings in acrylic, oil and pastel.
- Dariel Saunders Buczek, a pottery artist from Winston-Salem, who enhances her clay pieces using paint to give additional color and interest.
- Ginnie Conaway of Winston-Salem who displays acrylic and watercolor paintings which celebrate the vanishing current landscape and the connection we feel to the land.
- Linda Foster, a Winston-Salem watercolor painter, who uses the play of light and color in her pieces.
- Book artist Sigrid Hice of Hickory who displays her handmade books created with paste papers and paint.
- Kristen Kay Nice,a photographer from Wilmington, who captures the essence of peace and stillness in the everyday moments of life.
- Sherri Peterson of Lexington who shows the Cajun culture, dance, music and Mardi Gras scenes in her colorful oil and acrylic paintings..
New Expressions will be on display until mid-May and is open to the public during regular college operating hours.
